Orange Buttercream Frosting

Oranges are one of my favorite fruits! They are fresh, zesty and always make me feel better! The clean taste they give off counters the sweet and richness of the buttercream base! Since Drew is the eater of all recipes including gluten and dairy, I usually end up baking a classic vanilla cake (his favorite) for the vessel to hold the new frosting flavors! It pairs beautifully with a chocolate devil's food cake as well!

Orange Buttercream Frosting:

Using your stand mixer with the whisk attachment or a hand mixer beat the soft butter with the confectioners sugar

Add in the vanilla and keep beating!

*key is to keep beating quickly

Next, zest your orange straight into the bowl and squeeze about 1/4 of the juice from half the orange

Citrus and dairy like to separate so keep the beaters moving!

- 1 stick of warm butter

- 1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar

- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

- 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed orange juice

- 2 tablespoons orange zest (about a whole medium sized orange)

- 1 tablespoon milk

Next, add in the milk to keep the frosting creamy and thick

Beat on high for about 3 minutes until fluffy and smooth

Wait until your cakes are completely  cool and spread 1/4 of the frosting on the middle of the two cakes and the rest on the top and outside of the cake!

Eat and enjoy!
