Halloween is the best time to bake oozing, black and obscure treats and pass them off as badass! I have always been so into more pretty Halloween decorations and treats! When my grandma sent me these adorable cake toppers I was ready to start baking!
Of course, I went with a Devils Food chocolate cake and a classic chocolate butter cream last seen here ! I decided to decorate these Spook-tacular- cupcakes with some classic orange sugar crystals and sugar pearls to look like eyes! (Thats about how spooky I can get ;))
They also tasted like the Devil kissed them himself.... so sweet ( I was trying to make a joke...)
Okay let's get baking for this dark night!!
Devils Food Cupcakes:
Pre heat the oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit
In a mixing bowl with the paddle attachment, beat the sugar, and the butter until creamed
Add in the cocoa powder and the hot water and beat until mixed in
Slowly add in the eggs one at a time and beat until smooth
Next, combine the salt, baking powder, baking soda, vanilla and 1 cup of the flour into the mix
Continue adding in flour and when the batter is dry add in the yogurt!
The batter should be smooth and rich looking
*you can use sour cream instead of yogurt if so desired!
- 3/4 cup unsweetened Special Dark Cocoa Powder
- 3/4 cup hot water
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoon course salt
- 3 sticks of unsalted butter
- 2 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 eggs at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup of non fat greek yogurt
Fill cupcake cups 3/4 the way full and bake for 20 minutes until they are risen and perfect! Let them cool completely before frosting them with this frosting here
